Hi there and welcome to Second Fiddle. I’m a recent grad, living in NYC via Philly and Boston and a sucker for any folk-infused combination of strings, bells, hand-claps and horns. Here’s a bit more information about my music taste and interests:
Favorite artist growing up: Aretha Franklin. When I was in 5th grade, my mom unearthed a copy of Aretha Franklin’s Greatest Hits. I fell in love with the Queen of Soul and realized that there was more to music than just the Top 40 played on Q102 radio.
First concert: John Legend and Corinne Bailey Rae at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, PA
Music Experience: I am the proud co-founder and original co-host of Friends Don’t Let Friends Be Hipsters on BU’s student-run radio station WTBU. I also wrote for Camden Pudding while studying abroad in London in the spring of ’12.
Most memorable concert experience: Sitting on stage at the 2010 WXPN XPoNential Music Festival during the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Dr. Dog sets. I interned for XPN that summer and volunteered at the festival all weekend long, which included meeting some of my favorite bands and seeing them live. Musical bliss.
Other favorite concerts: So difficult to choose, but right now my favorites are: Seeing (and meeting) VV Brown at the Great Scott in Allston (February 2010), being moved to tears at The Head and the Heart at the Royale in Boston (June 2012) and photographing the Civil Wars at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston (October 2011)…and then interviewing them for Camden Pudding a few months later!
Listening to right now: Lord Huron, Alt-J, Foxygen and Local Natives. Check out my playlist here.
